Always striving to enhance the visitor experience, the team at Farmer Palmer’s wanted to revamp their water play area.
They approached TouchWood for a new, innovative design that would seamlessly integrate into the park’s surroundings and comfortably accommodate at least 20 children at a time to ensure there would be plenty of space for all in peak season.
The goal was clear: create an exciting water-themed playground with multiple engaging features that also included ample shade for sun protection and required minimal maintenance. Natural elements were a must, ensuring the new space not only looked great but also felt like an extension of the park’s existing landscape.
The new water play area boasts a range of interactive and engaging features:
Boulder water run: Dual water streams for endless interactive play.
Paddle basin and off-stream channel: Diverse water play experiences to keep children entertained.
Water pumps and sluice gates: Hands-on fun where kids can control the water flow, enhancing learning through play.
Timber-clad tunnel crawl: A hollow log tunnel made from British wood, complete with a slide and rope raceway for added adventure.
Astroturf mound with slide: A safe, grassy area perfect for sliding fun.
Robinia log hops: Natural play elements that encourage balance and coordination.
Sprinkler granite capture dish: An exciting feature that captures and releases water for splashy fun.
Canopy for shade: Existing poles were utilised to provide essential shade, ensuring a sun-safe play environment.
Intergenerational play: Features designed to foster teamwork and interaction across different age groups, like a child pumping water to activate elements in another area.

The new water play space has positively impacted Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park by encouraging longer visitor stays and repeat visits. Parents appreciate the engaging environment surrounded by seating and beautiful wildflowers, while children revel in the endless fun. This successful project has given the park a competitive edge, attracting more visitors and enhancing the overall family experience.
