TouchWood's Wooden Children’s Play Areas: What We Do
We mix natural sustainable materials and a passion for adventurous, educational play, with the practical know-how and inventive design skills to make sure every play space is safe, long-lasting and special.
Our approach is unique. We design each project from scratch in close collaboration with each client, and often with the active input of children and your community members (see “Designing for Real”). We want to understand exactly what you want to achieve, what kind of play you want to encourage, what are your commercial objectives and the personality and subtleties of your project environment.
As one of the UK’s most prominent play equipment manufacturers, what we achieve is a special combination of ground-breaking design and creativity, pioneering technology and traditional craftsman skills. This ensures your play features facilitate outstanding natural play and offer exceptional structural beauty and integrity.
PLAYGROUND DESIGN & BUILD PROCESS
Since setting up in 2002, we have developed a wealth of experience and have helped hundreds of people to turn their visions for play into reality.
We pride ourselves in our customer service, and this starts with your first contact with us. Whether you need help working out how to get your small Parish play area off the ground, looking for design ideas that will encourage your community to fundraise for a new climbing feature or would like to know how you can develop your park wooden adventure play equipment to incorporate your outdoor learning curriculum, we have answers and suggestions that will help you on your way.
THE DESIGN PROCESS
Stage 1 - CREATING THE BRIEF
The design process starts when you first contact us – by having a chat and talking through your vision we can begin to unpick your needs and start visualising a play space that is right for you. If it is community participation you are after, then we have tailor-made processes just for you (see optional extras 1A and 2A).
Stage 2 - DESIGN
Using our experience and expertise we take your brief, or the community designs and budgets and develops an exciting concept.
We call it ‘Designing for Real’. This tailor made workshop relies on genuine participation from key stakeholders in the project. From this day of model-making and playwork comes a brief that we create and agree together. Ready to be handed to our designers for Stage 2 of our design and build process.
Stage 3 - BUILD
Our highly qualified, dedicated build team manufactures and installs all aspects of your new play landscape, guaranteeing the highest quality playground available.
We call it ‘Building for Real’. This is a perfect way of encouraging early adoption of your site by your community. Yes, the community will get an opportunity to use traditional craft tools to build one of the features in their new playground.
If you can imagine it, we can probably build it! Our bespoke design service will help you turn your wild ideas into real play features. Take a look at some of our tried and tested designs to inspire and shape your own playscape.Case Studies
