Completely unique to your personal style, a good playground design should inspire, engage, and ultimately amaze your children. Filled to the brim with endless adventures, your playground should keep children immersed in not only their imagination, but nature too.

Here at Touchwood Play, we focus on just that: Nature

Do you remember the good old days when technology was limited? Our parents would send us on our merry way to venture out into the great outdoors.

There were endless possibilities. We’d climb trees and wooden fences, invent the most imaginative games with our mates, and most importantly, we’d work with the wonders of nature – not against it.

Working with nature

We’re not an ‘out of the box’ playground business. We believe in giving nature a second chance to thrive. We use natural materials such as fallen trees, boulders, and sand to create a playful and sustainable environment for children to thrive.

From wooden dens to handcrafted log hollows, zip lines to climbing frames, we believe that every child deserves an immersive experience while staying connected to nature.

Not only do we source sustainable products for our playgrounds, but we also provide safe spaces for wildlife. Many of our playgrounds have installed bird nests where there have been sightings of hatchlings being cared for by their mothers.

Nature is filled with infinite resources for creating and repurposing, and, with that in mind, we believe that a good playground design should incorporate four different elements:

  • Physical Play
  • Social Play
  • Constructive Play
  • Fantasy Play

Let’s dive into what each of these means.

Physical Play

Physical play is focused on building your child’s physical skills by way of building their muscles, bones, and strength.

Using crawl spaces, ropewalks, monkey bars, climbing towers, and slides, we’re encouraging your children to develop their physical skills all while stimulating their fantasy and social play.

And bonus points for the parents – with all this exercise, you’re certainly guaranteed a peaceful night with your tired child. It’s a win-win for all!

Social Play

Social Play is focused on encouraging children to play with one another. To teach them to share, cooperate, and to be kind.

To achieve social play, we install water play areas, sand pits, talking tubes, kinetic sculptures, and hidden dens where children can let their imaginations run wild.

Not only are we encouraging children to play fairly with one another, but we also inspire them to build friendships. Encouraging longer play times, social playground designs are best situated within commercial areas and school grounds.

Constructive Play

Constructive play is designed to encourage children to experiment with their skills in a nature inspired environment. Experimentation includes drawing, creating music, and building.

Focused on developing your child’s motor skills, our playgrounds are built to help children evolve their movement skills and gain an understanding of different distances and sizes.

To achieve constructive play, we build bespoke water play features, sand pits containing objects to encourage children to build things, and handcrafted wooden blocks for endless stacking.

Depending on how you’d like your playground designed, we also install ‘bug hotels’ to allow your children to plant their own flowers and vegetables all while preserving surrounding wildlife.

Fantasy Play

Fantasy play comes hand in hand with all well-designed playgrounds. Here at Touchwood Play, we pride ourselves on building bespoke playgrounds to help bring your child’s imagination to life.

Encouraging your child to use their imagination, fantasy play is designed to help develop their communication skills.

We build wooden kitchens and props to mimic a chef or a customer, ice-cream stands, houses with wooden furniture, and caricature objects such as trains and climbing towers shaped like robots or giants.

So what is a good playground design?

To achieve the best playground design and maximise your child’s experience, we recommend incorporating all four elements: Physical, Social, Constructive, and Fantasy Play.

At Touchwood Play, we thrive to create a playground that is completely unique to you. We understand everyone has their own vision for how adventure should look.
